Good morning all! I need some advice here, for me and my horse. - TopicsExpress

Good morning all! I need some advice here, for me and my horse. This is probably going to be a unique post here and I apologize in advance for the novel I have written for you. Me - Im on week 3 or so of no poo. Ive only been using baking soda every 3-4 days to keep my scalp from getting out of hand with oil. I have thin hair that likes to get oily. I live on farm and ride horses several times a week so I wear a helmet and then sweat a lot. Therefore, I have to do water only every other day AT LEAST. (If we have rainy weather or whatever and I dont ride and get gross then I have no problem just letting it not get wet at all.) I have yet to do any white vinegar because dryness isnt the issue. I have gotten a 100% BBB and use that. I brush underneath and topside with it. Now my hair is waxy, since the brush is doing its job spreading the oils out and stuff, but I cant say Im thrilled with how it feels. What can I do to combat the wax feel? Also, the underside of my hair right around my scalp, especially in the back, really is oily. Trying my best to ignore it. Being on a farm makes it easy as I just put a hat on or just not worry about what I look like (hello, its a farm!) but I do have a social life every now and again too so need some help here. Since it is summer I also go swimming every once in a while but I go down to the river. I guess fish poo is better than chlorine? Maybe? haha. I would like to go get my hair cut soon but I think if my stylist saw my hair right now and if I told her I was doing no poo (shes a Matrix stylist) I think shed faint. Would like to get some red highlights in my hair (I know its not great to do but I love the semi-punk look. I mean a BRIGHT red streak or two, not like normal hair color red but Im hoping i can wait for my hair to level out some or for you guys to tell me what to do even if it just lasts for a quick day so I can get my hair cut/fun streak or two without giving my girl a heart attack.) My horse - I have switched Nova (my horse) over to no poo as well. I dont know if any of you here are familiar with horses, but I am a horse grooming nerd when it comes to my personal show horse. I love to curry him (He loves it too omg) which bring natural oils out. I also feed him black oil sunflower seeds so needless to say, not trying to brag here, but my horses coat is super shiny and SOFT. I have not used any soap/horse shampoo on his coat since late March when I bathed him to be body clipped. Anyway, when I hose him off after being ridden if hes sweaty Ive been just keeping the hose water real soft to keep his oils in. I made a white vinegar mix (50% vinegar, 50% water) and usually the day or two before a show after I ride and hose him I will spray said mix onto his coat while hes wet, let it soak for about 5 minutes, then gently rinse it out. Any other suggestions you can think of I could do for his coat? My question is really for his tail - Not sure what to put on that. Pretty much from what I can tell, all the tail sprays, detanglers, and conditioners are nothing but silicone agents. Not what I want to be putting in his tail!!!! Here are the ingredients of another popular horse care product called Cowboy Magic: Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Silk, Ethylhexy Methoxycinnamate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance. I dont know what all that stuff is so maybe someone here can enlighten me, but I think I dont want that crap on Nova while hes No-pooing with me. ;-) What I HAVE been putting on the dock of his tail is something called M-T-G (Mane Tail Groom) which is a WONDERFUL product that really works for all types of horse dermatological issues and helps with growing a thicker tail. The ingredients for that are Mineral oil, sulfur, zinc sterate, glycerine, cade oil (rectified). This is okay to use right? (even if its not Ill probably keep using it as needed just for spot treating his coat because it really does work amazing.) Im thinking should I get some Coconut oil for his tail to condition it? What do you guys recommend. Obviously the texture of a horses tail is a lot coarser than human hair, so any advice for that is good. Ive heard of people using mineral oil on their hair and leaving it on?? Is that good/bad??? I also got Nova his very own Boar Bristle Brush for his mane, forelock, and tail. He loves that too. If you click on my FB profile you can see me and Nova are my big cover photo. I get compliments on his coat all the time, which being in the hunter show world and doing things that are totally unconventional in horse show land makes me smile. ;-) Thanks for taking the time to read this! Gonna eat then get on the tractor now. I look forward to your suggestions for both me and Nova!!
