Good morning all. On this day 39 years ago my dad, and girlfriend at the time dropped me off at the recruiting station in Smithtown NY right about this time. We said our goodbyes and by 6 I was in a fan rolling towards Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn. I was scared as hell wondering if I had made the right decision. After physicals etc. by noon I was sworn in the U.S. Navy and on a train by 2pm headed towards Boot Camp. The first couple of weeks were the toughest because it was really my first time away from home. But it was the start of a wonderful adventure. I did a lot of things and met some great people along the way as a result of that decision. Still meeting great people as a result of that decision. In looking back yes I made the right decision to join the Navy and several months later I would make the decision to volunteer Submarines, but thats a story for another day. Many thanks to all who supported me including my dad and those I met along the way for helping me with my 22 year career and helping to make it the right decision.
