Good morning my friends. I had the pleasure yesterday of being - TopicsExpress

Good morning my friends. I had the pleasure yesterday of being interviewed by a very pleasant young man for a school assignment. Conor was so pleasant, he even laughed at my corny jokes. Sometimes we wonder what will become of our country if we hand over the reins of its guidance to our young folks, well if we have more young men to come along like Conor, we will be better off than we are now. When he and his mom left the gallery after the interview, it was almost as if someone had dimmed the lights. Their visit brought me back to Sunday again as I listened to Eddie and Pam Hicks as they played their duet of “This Little Light of mine.” I wish Conor well in all his endeavors and pray he will keep his light shining. I watched as that young man typed away on his lap-top as I was regaling him with my bits of Cottonisms. Bless his heart, that boy could type faster than I could think. Students today seem like they are a whole lot smarter than we were when we were their age. I was always scared to open my mouth in school after my huge faux pas in the fourth grade. One day our teacher asked the class on what continent we lived. Heck I figured that one out in a hurry and blurted out proudly, “South America.” Well, the way I figured it, we lived in the South and I was pretty sure we stilled lived in America, so to me, South America sounded like it was the obvious answer. Well, after the laughter died down and my face got back to its normal color, I realized that I was not as well at making deductions as I thought I was. However, one good thing did come out of my uneducated bit or reasoning; I became a well-informed student of geography and fell in love with the subject. I made all “As” in the class for the rest of the year. I took pride in my ability to spell difficult words and when my sister, Laura, taught me to spell Czechoslovakia while I was still in the second grade, I thought I was light years ahead of the rest of the class when it came to geography. Boy was I wrong about that! But, I did learn a lot about spelling while I was in elementary school and made all “As” in spelling every year. Sis even taught me to spell Geography correctly. She taught me to take the first letters of some familiar words and apply them to the letters of the word I was trying to spell, ergo, George Ervin’s Oldest Girl Rode a Pony Home Yesterday. Now, I can barely spell my name correctly. I guess George’s oldest girl took her pony and rode home and left me on my own. Well, I got up late since I took some of those industrial strength pain-relievers late last night. So, I suppose it’s time for me to hit the shower and get ready to face another day. If you find yourself in front of a crowd of people today, be sure not to blurt out the first thing that pops into your mind…it might be a little embarrassing. There are just some things you don’t forget…South America…I think our dog, “Snooks,” would have known the correct answer was North America. At least I didn’t say that I had been in all fifty-seven states like one of our politicians did while campaigning for the presidency. Have a good day my friends!! God Bless!!
