Good news about two of our patients! A handsome male Red-bellied Woodpecker has been released following a month of treatment. And the petite Turkey Vulture admitted Nov. 22nd is recuperating well. Despite being out in severe cold and snow, he did not have too much damage to his feet. Volunteers have nicknamed him Jafar. He needs to continue healing and will spend the winter at Tamarack since he missed the time for vultures to migrate south, but we expect him to be released in the spring. Jafar is appropriately wild and hisses warningly when his meals are delivered, but happily he has not reguritated on anyone (a vultures favorite defense mechanism.)
