Good news from Macedonia: The European Roma Rights Centre welcomes the first-ever judicial decision in Macedonia finding discrimination, delivered by the Macedonian Basic Court of Skopje 2. The court found that Roma were victims of discriminatory treatment when exercising their right to leave their own country-Macedonia. Restriction of their freedom of movement is one of the most pressing issues which Roma face in Macedonia. The ERRC recently lodged an initiative on the same issue before the Constitutional Court of Macedonia (errc.org/article/errc-challenges-discrimination-of-roma-at-the-border-before-the-constitutional-court-of-macedonia/4248). Decisions of this kind are crucial for improving respect for Roma rights. Congratulations to the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association and the Roma who challenged this practice.
