Got a nice surprise today, nice to have good news given how Im being screwed over by a non-paying client!! Levi Jones is currently re-installing the wave set fin box into my Aipa Transitional Semi-gun. I posted some images previously and debate was rife as to what was happening with the pigment band. Turns out, a prior owner decided to drill through a key decal to install a legroom plug and pulled out the box, so they put on the homemade pigment band?! The band once sanded off revealed the board to be a fairly significant Ben Aipa shaped Ski from 1969. The box removal was the reason for the slight cracking in the glass underneath. Greg Noll states in his book that Aipa single handedly created the Semi-gun idea around this time. Aipa and BK ( who was charging Sunset on his Pocket rockets) pretty much simultaneously came up with the Ski at the same time - Bens innovation due trying to get the best out of a faulty blank mind you!! Im stoked to discover this validation of the boards shaper and era as it is representative of a key period in Hawaiian gun development following Brewers Mini Gun from 1968. These boards led the way during that period, with BK really consolidating his name as a power surfer at Sunset during this era..... Unfortunately Im most likely still going to have to sell her, with Waveset box and fin installed if anyone is interested?
