Got some sad news confirmed yesterday about one of the biggest sources of love and encouragement in my life, one of my T3s. My dear Mabel has kidney disease. After a 4 pound weight loss off her 13 pound frame and initial blood work that came back with a high number, I brought her in for further blood work Saturday as well as a blood pressure test to rule out it was not just an infection. Alas, it is kidney disease, thankfully still in the early stages. At her age of 14, I was told this is a common diagnosis. Just never easy words to hear about your little princess that brings you so much joy and laughter, even when you are feeling down and weathered by the storms of chronic illness. The good news is that she loves her new Renal Health food! I gave her some dry first and she gobbled it right up, followed by the canned version which she devoured! Both are made with lower protein to help her kidneys do their job a little easier. We dont know how much time we have or how quickly it will progress. I have to bring her back in a month at which time we will recheck her kidney values, then on an every 6 month basis. We will hope for the best and I will continue to treasure every sweet meow and chirp that comes from the delightful little kitty she is. And just her sweetness, she is so unique. Just one sweet story about Mabel: A few weeks she was sleeping next to me on the bed all curled up, waiting patiently for me to wake up. She knows better than to wake me up in her excitement in the early hours of the morning. And has been lectured about this when she just cant stand it and walks over me, waking me out of a very needed deep sleep. At almost 9am my eyes opened and almost instantly she sprang to her feet (Mabel hardly moves fast for much of anything) and erupted in a frenzy of various meows, chirps and sweet cat noises in joyful exhilaration I had woken up. It put the biggest of smiles on my face. Our pets do such an amazing job making us feel special and loved.
