We hope you had a great time with us in Siem Reap. Did you know the money you have spent with us goes in no small way to helping the local community? As you have seen, Cambodia is still a developing country - our aim is to facilitate that development with the values of social and environmental responsibility first and foremost in mind. -The Hostel is supporting 27 staff members, 11 tuk tuk drivers, and their families. We pay around 50% above Cambodian industry standard and award wages at entry level for staff and have set fares for our drivers we believe fair. We charge no commissions from our drivers who work hard to provide our guests with the best experience possible. - We are one of the first employers in Cambodia to implement 3 months maternity leave at full pay and we have recently added paternity leave and 2 weeks paid vacation leave in addition to the 18 days of public holidays –previously unheard of in the Cambodian workplace! -We provide educational and vocational training and financial support - and also emergency assistance for our staff when times get difficult. -We have provided micro finance to get tuk tuk drivers and local wholesalers started –many of whom still work with us. -We are the proud founding donor of the Green Gecko Project – an NGO providing education and boarding for 75 kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Green Gecko Director was awarded a 2013 Member of Order of Australia in recognition of her 10 years of efforts to improve the lives of young people in Cambodia.
