Gov. Pat McCrory proposed a $21 billion 2014-15 budget, 1.7 percent larger than was approved a year ago for the upcoming fiscal year. He included the first significant pay raises for teachers and state employees since the Great Recession. McCrorys budget also spends $1.9 million to provide in-state community college tuition to military veterans who lived in North Carolina when they left the service but have not become official North Carolina residents.
