Governance Talk and Outcomes. Bridgid Corr gave a talk on Good - TopicsExpress

Governance Talk and Outcomes. Bridgid Corr gave a talk on Good Governance at the STUC Halls, Woodside, on Tuesday 17 June 2014, with around 20 participants. A lot of the discussion was on ways to keep plots well-governed. This included everything from allotment constitutions to the roles of committee office bearers. An important issue was the reliance of allotments on non-paid workers. Getting more individuals involved in the running of allotments is important. Governance and conflict resolution are also important issues on plots. JW is thinking of collecting anonymous stories from plots which highlighting the way that problems arise. Most plots in Glasgow are unincorporated associations. These are often informal and sometimes unprofessional. As a result, they may not be a particularly good model to work with. Charity models of organisation might be better. They offer allotment members more protection. This is especially important now that council’s would like allotments to take on more responsibilities in running themselves. Action: GAF to respond with more talks and training.
