Governor Aliyu Calls for more Oil and Gas Exploration in Nigeria to Expand Oil Reserve The Chief Servant and Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has called for more oil and gas exploration, outside the overstretched Niger Delta Basin, in order to expand Nigeria’s oil reserve. Governor Aliyu, represented by the Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin stated this at the maiden meeting of the Association of Petroleum Inland Basin States of Northern Nigeria (APIBONN), held at in Minna. He said that opening up the inland basins would result in reserve discoveries and increase the nation’s oil production, as well as encourage participation of both local and foreign investors to collaborate in diversifying petroleum sources for national development. According to the governor, since the oil boom in the 1970’s, Nigeria had assumed a mono-cultural economy, solely dependent on earning from petroleum export.
