Governor answers top five frequently asked questions. First in a series of five posts. Q: Why did you become Governor of Sint Maarten? A: I accepted the function of Governor when I was asked because of my desire to serve my island. After working for ten years to help achieve the new constitutional status (see photo newspaperclip of February 13, 2003) for Sint Maarten, I considered it my duty and a privilege to help shape our new country during these formative years in the unique constitutional position as Governor. I enjoy developing and building things and being the first Governor gives me the opportunity to contribute to the building of the new function and our nation. Accepting the Governorship in parliament on October 10, 2010 (see colour photo) was an affirmation of my commitment to serve in the interest of the people of Sint Maarten.
