Govt sanctions Rs 20 crore for flood affected people Schools to remain closed till Sep 7 Srinagar, Sep 4,: Expressing concern over the havoc caused by floods all across Jammu and Kashmir, Government Monday said that it sanctioned Rs 20 crores which will be placed at the disposal of both the Divisional Commissioners for meeting the expenditure on account of establishing of community kitchens, rescue operations, providing of shelter and restoring the connectivity. Addressing a news conference at Civil Secretariat Srinagar, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather and Minister for Education Tara Chand said that the priority of the government shall be to ensure safety of the people and provide them proper shelter and other arrangements. They said that though the process of assessment shall start immediately after the improvement in the situation, however, as per the initial report there is a huge loss to residential houses, live stock and public infrastructure. They said that due to heavy flash floods across the state, huge losses to life, property and public infrastructure has been reported. “The rescue operations are being carried out and government is on job to help the people,” they said. They informed that due to incessant rains 500 water schemes damaged completely. The Education Minister Tara Chand declared that that all the educational institutions all across State will remain closed till September 7 and in case the situation improves, they will reopen on the following day.
