Grab a latte...... could be a long post unless I make a long, long - TopicsExpress

Grab a latte...... could be a long post unless I make a long, long story short! So......., after 2 decent weeks in rehab ~ mom was walking the length of the parallel bars. Last Thursday stomach issues started back up. They have since subsided & tests show nothing for us to be alarmed about right now. However, since last Thursday, mom has hit a wall. She is unwilling to go to therapy or let them care for her like she needs them to. Simply put, she wants to come home!! Like the acute rehab in the hospital ~ when you stop progressing forward ~ you have to go! Right now we have roughly 34 days of rehab therapy that Medicare/Insurance would pay for. We are basically burning those days away because mom isnt going to therapy. We want to preserve what days we have left in the event she needs them after this next surgery. So, in this situation we have 2 options. 1. Place her on the long term hall of this facility & she becomes a nursing home resident OR 2. Bring her home! We are having her evaluated for home health/hospice care. Hospice is NOT what it once was. So, dont assume she is coming home to die! That is NOT the case. She just needs extensive in home care & sometimes hospice offers more than home health; they are different! With all that said: we know this is going to be very hard & demanding! Especially on daddy! Please pray for us & WITH us for this transition! Sometimes the caregiver role is so very hard & we needs lots of prayers on this one. If all goes as planned ~ the discharge date is set for next Wednesday, Aug. 27th. She will be home for one week until the last surgery for the skull replacement, Sept 3rd. While recovering in the hospital we will simply have to re-evaluate what comes next based on the week we have at home.. At that time we will have about 28 days of rehab left that can be utilized in an outside facility. Words can not adequately describe how appreciative we are for the kind words, texts, msgs, phone calls, cards, prayers & loyal thoughts from you guys! There are days we all are physically & emotionally running on fumes. But, we know the prayers sent up on our behalf get us through to the next new day. So, I humbly say, Thank You all. This is a bitter sweet time for us! We have prayed & pleaded with God for moms health to be such that she can come home to us! She appears not ready to come home in regards to strength. But, we are praying being home in her comfort zone with us will give her the motivation she has been lacking to get this thing behind her. This next week will be crazy busy in coordinating all that goes along with getting her home. I will update when I can! Believe it or not... I made a very long story short! ;)
