Grady is out of surgery for the day. he didnt end up going in till - TopicsExpress

Grady is out of surgery for the day. he didnt end up going in till around 3:15 and came out around 6:15. The surgeon who debriefed us gave us the best news we could possibly hope for. He said the surgical team were all very surprised how well the tissue was doing and how little had deteriorated. At this point they believe they will most likely not need to take any portion of his left foot. Based on what I originally saw after the accident, I consider this to be a miracle. I have tried my best over the last few days to be optimistic about the outcome for his left foot, and I believe the Drs have been as well. But I think they were honestly prepared to remove the better half of it. I apologize if this sounds graphic. But his left foot was all but severed below his ankle. It was hanging by a few threads and I was concerned it was going to come off when I was holding him in my arms during the frantic drive from our house to LRGH. There was also severe damage to the portion that was hanging. I only share this because I honestly believe that the army of friends family and strangers that have been praying for him have played an important role in the success of the surgeries thus far. And that it is a testament to prayer. They had to put a feeding tube into Gradys nose while in the OR. As he was not getting the nutrition he needed since he wasnt eating with the meds doing a number on his stomach. When he came back to our room in ICU he awoke and became pretty hysterical about the feeding tube in his nose. He was given ativan to bring him under control. The ativan worked for its intended purpose but caused his breathing to slow down far too much. I got more than nervous when I realized the nurse was pounding on his chest. After about 5 minutes his breathing increased and he has been doing fine since. He is pretty highly medicated right now and doing well. The next surgery will be on Friday. Thank you for your continued prayers!
