Grant Taylor Today at 11:05 Hi Guys Thought you would be interested to see Police Minister Liza Harveys response to questions yesterday about the idea of WA copying Victoria by offering $1 million rewards for unsolved cases. She appeared to be reluctant to commit to the idea.... “The way we’ve approached rewards in this State is different to just having a blanket $1 million reward for any information for any unsolved murder case. To change the system we’ve had in place that has actually worked quite successfully for police in this State, we would need to see some compelling evidence that it would bring forward better information that would help us solve those cases. That is a discussion I will continue to have with the Commissioner and we’ll see if we can land on an outcome some time this year on that matter.” “It’s not a matter I’ve discussed in great detail at this point in time with the Commissioner so before we change the existing system – bearing in mind to offer a $1 million reward that will need to be a decision of cabinet – so it’s an idea that’s been floated out there, it’s something they are trialing in Victoria and we’ll have a look and see what happens as a result of that Victorian trial and we’ll have discussions with the Commissioner who no doubt is talking to major crime to see if that would be an incentive that would help us solve some of our unsolved crimes.
