Grants grease the gears of communities Two arts workshops run by Upper Hunter artists will be part of the packed program of the NSW Rural Women’s Gathering to be held next month in Scone, thanks to a Country Arts Support Program (CASP) grant. Chair of the Scone Rural Women’s Gathering and Upper Hunter Shire Councillor Lee Watts said grant funds were a great boost for community activities and there is help available for community organisations wanting to apply for funds. “Whether it’s a big event involving hundreds of people like the NSW Rural Women’s Gathering or a smaller group getting together to learn and perform the ukulele, there is funding out there to make something happen in your community,” Cr Watts said. CASP grants have also supported community activities such as the Whose Been Sleeping in My Town art and oral history activities in Murrurundi, children’s quilting workshops organised through the Aberdeen Neighbourhood Centre, and the Play in A Day theatre workshop for young people in Scone. There are many different grants available for rural and regional communities according to Upper Hunter Shire Council grants officer Tess Hynes. Council’s latest Grants Bulletin includes the $5000 Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal grants for projects in small rural and remote locations which closes Friday, September 27”.
