Great Lakes National Cemetery Avenue of Flags The Great Lakes - TopicsExpress

Great Lakes National Cemetery Avenue of Flags The Great Lakes National Cemetery (GLNC) located in Holly, Michigan officially opened on October 17, 2005, and is the final resting place of more than 12,000 veterans and their dependents. The Avenue of Flags, the signature landmark of the GLNC, is located just inside the main entrance to the cemetery and has 100 flagpoles that display our Nation’s colors. These flags are flown 24/7 by authority of the National Cemetery Administration. The United States of America flags used in the Avenue of Flags are burial flags that are either donated by the next of kin to the VA National Cemetery for display, or provided by the Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council or other veterans organization. The Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council (GLNCAC) has been dialoging over the last few months regarding this issue. In order for the GLNCAC to continue the practice of flying the flags 24/7 on all 100 poles, they need you and/or your organization to assist them by either donating flags, or donating in increments of $65 for individual flags. For information about donating a burial flag and receiving a Certificate of Appreciation, contact the cemetery staff toll free at 866-348-8603.
