Great evening last night at the Grange Park Opera with Prue, Cathy - TopicsExpress

Great evening last night at the Grange Park Opera with Prue, Cathy and Ian. All the reviews have been pretty good, and we largely agree with them though we did not like the minimalist sets, or why the production appeared very static on the stage until act 4, or understand why the whole production was in black and white and set in what appeared to be California, cowboys and all! But Clare Rutter as Violetta was astonishing - she has a wonderfully expressive voice with a volume loud enough to dominate the orchestra. Alfredo was also excellent, as was the man who played his father (names later!). There was a daft scene with bullfighters which looked almost like a stilted form of pantomime but all in all, and coupled with a stunning picnic courtesy of Prue and Ian, we all had a lovely evening! Off home in about three hours, collecting the pups on the way then we start to clear the barn next week ready for the start on the conversion in a month or so! Busy times!
