Great letter hits d nail on the head about the leaking of the report. newsday.co.tt/letters/0,193834.html Missing the real issue Thursday, April 24 2014 THE EDITOR: It is unfortunate how important issues in Trinidad and Tobago are often masqueraded, trivialised, and even exaggerated in an attempt to score cheap political points. The issue of “leaking” the PCA’s report to Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi is an example of this. According to Senator Al-Rawi, he received this report in his mailbox at home, but subsequently changed his statement saying that it was delivered to his office. Regardless of the mode of delivery, I believe there are much greater sinister issues being gravely underplayed. According to section 20(3) of the PCA Act, it is mandated that the authority may, on its own initiative or at the request of the Minister submit a special report to the Minister, who shall cause it to be laid in Parliament in accordance with subsection (2). Some interpret this to mean the PCA has the right to exercise discretion, but it would be absurd for the PCA not to send such a report to the Minister; since it was an investigation into his own ministry. This raises the real issues. How did a report of such national importance reach an Opposition Senator before the Minister? What protocols were not followed? What, if any, issues of national security were breached? And more importantly,..why? If one would read between the lines, it is clear that those who have something to hide are vehemently trying to disguise and distract from these main issues. Ann Jones Port-of-Spain
