Green Party’s Howie Hawkins to kick off campaign for New York governor SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Howie Hawkins plans to officially kick off his Green Party race for governor Tuesday in Syracuse. The campaign’s official announcement is at 6 p.m. at the special events room at The Spa at 500, 500 W. Onondaga St. Hawkins will make similar announcements next week in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester and New York City. Hawkins won 59,906 votes – more than any other third-party candidate against Cuomo, who received 2,910,876 votes in 2010. He is a graveyard-shift United Parcel Service worker from Syracuse’s South Side. He has run 20 times for local, state and federal offices, but has never won. Hawkins speaks the Green Party message of social and economic justice. He calls for a $15-an-hour minimum wage.
