Greenwich lost a good friend over the weekend, someone with whom I felt a particular and unique affinity. Rowland Mike Harris and I used to have a lot of laughs whenever we recounted the stories of confusion we caused. Mike and his nephew, Mike Harris, (Griffs son) and I were talking one evening at a social occasion. A stranger came up to introduce himself. I was the third to say Hi, my name is Mike Harris. The stranger muttered idiots and walked off. Mike was the Town Clerk for years. One day I called Public Works, introduced myself and suggested the Town might raise the manhole covers on Mallard Drive to street level (it was killing my tires). By the next morning, all the manhole covers had been asphalted over. Just demonstrates the power of a name and very special person. Mike, I will miss you.
