Greetings all. I would like to let everyone know that because of several adoptions and some dogs going out to foster today we have bought a little bit of time for the wahs adoptables I posted at risk. This was a great effort by the community, however the sad reality is that the shelter gets 100 pets brought to them every week, and even though they try as hard as they can, not all of them can be saved. Until spay and neuter becomes the common practice in Mohave county, and until the city of Kingman and the county get on board and realize that the facilities that they provide for animal care and control in the county are so inadequate as to pretty much be a joke, there will always be animals at risk. The ones i posted today have at the most, a guaranteed additional day, but by tomorrow afternoon the fight starts all over and if people or animal control bring in many more dogs they will have to be housed somewhere... Please I continue to ask that you help educate the public on the absolute importance of spay and neuter, that it is not ok to let their pets give birth to to more when there are not enough homes for them all. I also ask that if you find a stray please try to hold onto them, or find a friend/family who can for a few days rather than calling animal control right away. You can still take a photo down to the shelter and leave your contact information so the owner can get ahold of you. A good portion of dogs who go missing can get back to their home right away but if you call animal control the owners are fined and charged holding fees as well and may not go claim their pet if they can not afford all the fees. Giving owners this chance to reclaim their pets outside of the animal control system is a win/win all around. Please continue to share, foster, adopt, volunteer, and educate until we can get a toe hold in the overpopulation it is the best we can do for these loves in the hope that they get the life they deserve. and for those that do not find a home, quick and humane euthanasia rather than starvation, being hit by a car, death by disease or abuse, while terribly sad, unfortunate, and if people were responsible, unnecessary, is the next best route we can offer at this time but that does not mean we will not fight like heck in the time that we have to do everything that we can.
