Greetings from Center for Science & Environment! Increasing urbanization in India has led to soaring freshwater demands and has hence resulted in large amounts of wastewater generation. This water crisis is mainly a consequence of the current water management regime which focuses on centralized water management. What we need is to implement sustainable and affordable decentralised water management practices. To address this issue, CSE offers a five day course on “Sustainable Urban Water Management” for practitioners (engineers/ architects/ planners/ NGOs and government officials), academicians, consultants, students and researchers from June 30 to July 4, 2014. This programme will focus on planning and designing of rainwater harvesting (RWH) and decentralised wastewater treatment systems (DWWT). Practical exercises, field visits in and around Delhi and an opportunity to interact with the experts on the field will be key highlights. Modules: • Urban Rainwater Harvesting - Two and a half day programme will focus on understanding the potential of water augmentation at building and/or neighborhood scale. The training will impart skills on planning and designing both recharge and storage structures and will disseminate knowledge on the techno-economic feasibility and operation and maintenance of these systems. • Decentralised Wastewater Treatment – Two and a half day programme will focus on understanding the potential of sustainable and affordable decentralised wastewater treatment (DWWT) systems for local reuse. The training will provide hands on experience in planning and designing, techno-economic feasibility, operation and maintenance of DWWTS. Faculty: Eminent academicians, leading practitioners, policy makers and CSE researchers. Thirty practitioners from all over the country including Architects, Consultants, NGO representatives and students participated in the training programme and are now implementing their own projects.
