Greetings from Ottawa, Canadas capitol city. I am accompanying Erin to the Ottawas Writers Festival where she did a reading tonight, is teaching a workshop tomorrow and a workshop at a school on Monday. We toured the capitol grounds today and explored the House of Par liament which is pretty much a miniature of Westminster. All very beautiful. The grounds overlook the Ottawa Falls and River which divides Ontario fro Quebec. We had an especially warm day and wondered upon the Ottawa Poutine Festival! Thousand of people waiting in line for cheese curds and gravy. Given the long lines and our trepidation, we decided to forgo this national delight. Ottawa is the second most northern capitol except the capitol in Outer Mongolia. Queen Victoria picked the spot, we were told, to unite the English and French cultures and to keep the Americans from invading the capitol. Decided today, I need to study up on some Canadian history, which it appears I know less than a little. I gotta tell you this American girl is a little undone by a Constitutional Monarchy Theocracy. Having lots of fun with my daughter who is especially funny after a couple of glasses of wine.
