Greetings supporters of ARLA, Last night the school board voted 4 to 3 to reject the charter application for Arkose Ridge Leadership Academy. Prominent in reasons provided by board members was a sense that evidence of parental and student support for the school was lacking. Despite initial shock and disappointment, we are moving forward and exploring how this may present opportunities. The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development has been informed of our intentions to appeal at the state level. Our board is meeting tonight to discuss priorities and strategy. We will be updating our website (anewkindofschool.org) and likely presenting a survey to collect data on parental and student support to include in our appeal to the commissioner of education and then the state board.
