Growing up I dont ever remember celebrating Cinco de Mayo. September 15th (Mexican Independence Day) was something that we did occasionally, especially if we were in Los Angeles that time of the year (which happened more than once!). When I was younger she kind of saw it as another excuse for people to get drunk, which it seems to have become. If you are celebrating Cinco de Mayo today or know someone who is please remember to take it easy, be safe, take cab fair and that tomorrow is a workday. If you are really conscious, tip the guys in the back of the house an extra 10 percent. They are whipping up those flautas and that tomatillo sauce you love at that restaurant you are at. They are probably Mexican and working hard for you.
