Growing up in the refrigerator section of the Great Midwest, as a - TopicsExpress

Growing up in the refrigerator section of the Great Midwest, as a child I longed for a stocking cap to keep my head warm while out in the elements. But, my moms rules of engagement made them worthless -- for instance, she decreed that you couldnt just pull it on and down, covering up as much flesh as possible -- that was for louts. Good decorum required a border of hair be visible all around the stocking. Which might be nice if I had long, flowing locks, but another house rule required hair be burr length or shorter. And that meant, if properly worn, the stocking cap had less warming ability than a yarmulke, with none of the hip sportiness. Thank God I now live among louts who know that the proper positioning of a stocking cap starts just below the eyebrows and extends to below the collar in the back -- and over both ears. I have one -- with a sporty ski logo on the front. And my most wonderful wife, while blitzkrieging through Das Vaterland this last week For Official Business, brought me back a second -- gloriously jet black with a Berlin logo. And it is warm! I wear it with pride!
