Growing up, my brother & I were not exposed to all things - TopicsExpress

Growing up, my brother & I were not exposed to all things Faasamoa. It wasnt withheld from us, it was just a decision that my parents made early on. And although in our home they encouraged speaking Samoan, we lived in Samoa for 3 years of our childhood and were raised with Samoan discipline (lol), my first real experiences with Faasamoa came when I married Aaifou . He was raised quite the opposite: family fully immersed in the Samoan culture. Throughout the years weve been together, Ive learnt so much about why things are done the way they are, and what certain things mean. And although I have a looonnggg way to go, and there are parts I will never fully grasp or agree with personally, its been an amazing learning curve and quite beautiful to watch!! Being a small part in our Family Patriarchs sendoff yesterday was truly a memory I will never live down. The amount of love present in all decisions made, the unity and willingness to forego sleep and get things done, EVERYTHING about this beautiful day - I marvel in amazement!! I have so much more appreciation for my heritage, felt pride in wearing a puletasi (that I couldnt breathe in haha) and look forward to more opportunities to serve. Just dont EVER put me on the head table, Im good with staying in the background hahaha so proud and honoured to have married into such an amazing family. Ia manuia lau malaga Pā. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your day xx
