Guardian TARABA ASSEMBLY SPEAKER, HARUNA TSOKWA, DIES Published: Monday, 04 November 2013 14:50 Written by EDITOR THE Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Haruna Tsokwa, is dead. He reportedly died on Monday morning of an undisclosed ailment at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo. Tsokwa had taken ill last Thursday before being rushed to hospital. The spokesman for the states Acting Governor Garba Umar, Kefas Sule, while confirming the incident, said, “he died this morning (Monday), after just a brief illness. He however declined more details, saying the state government was awaiting the outcome of reports from the late Speakers doctors before making any further pronouncement on the matter. Tsokwa had escaped death by the whiskers on September 19 when suspected gunmen attacked his convoy along the Jos – Abuja road. The late lawmaker attended Federal University of Technology, Yola, and Government Secondary School, Ibbi, for his university and secondary education respectively. He is survived by a wife and four children. Meanwhile, tributes have started started pouring in for the deceased. To the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri, Tambuwal, the news oame to him as a rude shock, saying it was a painful loss that will take long time to heal. In a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, Tambuwal said the deceased lived an examplary life of dedication and commitment to duty. According to him, the late Speaker was a patriotic Nigerian whose commitment to the development and independence of the legislature will be greatly missed, especially by his colleagues in the states legislature.
