Gun extremists love to justify their radicalism by publishing - TopicsExpress

Gun extremists love to justify their radicalism by publishing quotes about guns attributed to the Founders. The problem? Virtually all of these quotes are either taken out of context, or worse, completely fabricated. One of the largest victims of these fabrications is Thomas Jefferson, regularly quoted by gun nuts as having made idiotic statements that support their idiocy. Kory Watkins of Open Carry Tarrant County, one of the most radical chapters of Open Carry Texas recently posted this supposed quote: Those who hammer their guns into plowshares will plow for those who do not. These fabricated quotes are now so common that the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, which owns and manages Monticello and serves as an archive of Jeffersons works, has actually created a page on its website called Spurious Quotes. On this page, they fully research various attributed quotes, and if there is no evidence of such a quote, they just say so. They list the above quote on the list of spurious quotes because there is zero evidence that Jefferson wrote it, said it, or even thought it. This is the problem with radicals...you cant debate the actual issues because you spend all your time debunking fiction and nonsense.
