Gunman in Ati leader’s murder nabbed by police authorities Gunman in the killing of Ati-spokesperson in Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan nabbed by police authorities in Brgy Palasan, Sta. Cruz, Laguna on Monday evening, March 1 after an intensified police investigation, intelligence gathering and monitoring of the whereabouts of the alleged assailant of the victim. The accused identified as Daniel Celestino, a security guard of Crown Regency Boracay Resorts was charged for murder and two other unidentified suspects before the Office of the Aklan provincial prosecutor’s office on February 27 last year for the February 22 killing of Condez. Celestino was arrested a year after the incident by Laguna police in close coordination with local police authorities of Region 6 spearheaded by police regional director chief superintendent Josephus G. Angan and Aklan police by virtue of warrant of arrest in criminal case number 1134 for Murder dated October 1, 2013 issued by Branch 7 from the Regional Trial Court 6. Celestino was turned over by Regional Intelligence Division 6 to Kalibo and Boracay police last night from Manila for booking prior turn-over to court concerned. Early this morning, March 5, Celestino was turned-over to BJMP in Barangay, Nalook, Kalibo, Aklan. To recall the incident sometime on February 22, 2013 around 9:00 P.M., Condez, 26, spokesperson of the Boracay Ati Tribal Organization (BATO), was shot to death with multiple gunshot wounds after a lone gunman shot him while he was on his way to the Ati community in Barangay Manoc-Manoc in Boracay. Police investigators said, motive shows that Condez was murdered because of disputes over the 2.1-hectare property lot donated for the Aetas by the government in 2011 through a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) issued by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples. Recently, the different agencies and stakeholders affirm their commitment through the Ancestral Domain Sustainable Development and Protection Plan (ADSDPP) during the commemoration of the one year death anniversary of Condez held inside the vicinity of the Ati-village. Aklan police director senior superintendent Samuel C. Nacion said, the primary mandate of the PNP among others is “to enforce the law, prevent and control crimes.” Bringing the offender to justice, especially those with warrant of arrests (WOA) is the primordial task of the PNP. The arrest of Celestino is part of relentless effort of the police authorities through serving WOA against wanted persons, Nacion added. Nida L. Gregas Police Officer 3 C, PPIO
