Gutted to hear today that The Sound has closed its doors. Many who know me are aware of how much I was doing to try and help promote the place. Yet, even until 12 noon today, I had no idea of what was happening behind the scenes. And now, not only are this weekends bands cancelled, but it looks like the place has now closed down indefinitely. A real shame. So many pubs in South Shields all getting on board with putting on live music, yet the amount of people actually attending gigs has become so much more limited. A friend of mine put it in a nutshell when he said we really only need 2 or 3 live music pubs at the most in this town instead of a dozen with only 20 or so punters at each one. Very sad that The Sound only lasted 2 months, and that Shields has lost one of the few places to have a proper stage. And of course Im deeply gutted for all the bands that were due to play there as well.
