Guyana has about 8M acres of agricultural land of which only 1,2M acres are currently being used. While the potential for a massive agro-processing sector exists we are hampered by a major problem. Why is it that it is economically feasible to have fruit drinks, plantain chips, coconut milk etc. imported than to have our local manufacturers create these products? It is the cost of energy to power the factories that is hampering our private sector development.
