Guys, alright - I see all of my friends doing the #alsicebucketchallenge, which is wonderful - But I also feel like none of you are actually acknowledging that there is a real disease behind the whole My friend dared me to dump ice water on my head. ALS is actually a terrible disease, alright? And to simplify it for some of you, its basically a disease that kills your motor skills one by one. Normally it starts in the fingers, making it hard for you to do things like unlock your own door, start your own car, button your own shirt and pants - And it spreads through your body, up your arms, making you lose complete use of your hands, fingers, arms, and other limbs and muscles. It slowly deteriorates your body and skills until you cant walk by yourself, cant do simple things, breathing becomes difficult, and then all of the sudden, you arent breathing anymore. It kills the muscles to the point where you literally cannot breathe on your own. Now yes, this whole Dump a bucket of ice water on your head and then pass it on thing is really wonderful, because we ARE raising awareness for such a terrible disease - But most of you who are posting arent actually acknowledging the disease, and are acting like dumping ice water on your head is literally the worst thing that could happen to you. Please just take a minute out of your day and remember how lucky you are to even be able to LIFT that bucket of ice water. ALS isnt a joke - And its amazing how this simple challenge has spread, raising such great awareness, and even raising TONS of money for the research for a possible cure for ALS. My heart goes out to all the people who suffer from ALS, or have family members, or friends who suffer from it. Remember when you do your ice bucket challenge - Post the donation link - Give a brief description - Make sure youre actually raising awareness for the cause behind this. Dont just dump a bucket of water on your head, because there are real people out there who need your help, and they cant do this on their own.
