Guys, as we start a new academic year and we have the opportunity to be part of this wonderful writers group, here are a few tips: 1. WRITE: good writers didnt become good at it in their sleep. They practiced, they tried out different styles, different genres, they had a nosy (but very helpful) uni professor look at their work! 2. READ: If you want to write, you need to read. Particularly if you are hell bent on writing in a particular genre. Read everything you can in that genre. What has been missed? What isnt being written about? If you want to get published you are going to have to be original. You wont know if your work is original if you dont know whats out there. 3. KEEP A NOTEBOOK BY YOUR SIDE: ideas, snippets of conversation, metaphors and so on will occur to you in the most ridiculous of places, so keep a small notebook in your bag at all times to write them down. If you dont that idea will fly away! 4. DONT BE SHY: Keep producing work and sending it to me - I love it and it is good for you to be writing constantly - theres no need for something to be finished for me to give you feedback - so keep the stories, poems, dramas, vignettes, fragments and so on coming in!
