HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LITTLE RICHARD, DECEMBER 5, 1932 12 / 5 / 1932 = Little Richard ( Richard Penniman ). Hometown = Macon, Georgia. At 7, he sang for nickels &dimes in the streets of Macon. He was the lead singer in the church choir when he was 14. In 1951, he won a talent show in Atlanta, which resulted in a recording contract with R C A Records, for whom he recorded songs like Get Rich Quick & Taxi Blues. From there he went on to record for Peacock Records in Houston. In 1955, while working at a Greyhound bus station in Macon washing dishes, Richard sent Art Rupe of Specialty Records in Los Angeles a tape of a song he had recorded. Art then purchased Richards contract from Peacock & sent Bumps Blackwell, an A & R man, to meet Richard at the Cosmo Studios in New Orleans. They cut 9 tracks instead of the originally scheduled 8. The 9th was Richards audition demo of a song called Tuitti-Fruitti. The original song was a little too risque at the time so Bumps had Dorothy LaBostrie tone it down. The song was released on Specialty in late 1955 & became the first in a long list of Hits by Little Richard. His next release, Long Tall Sally, was recorded in Los Angeles, with Lee Allen on the sax solo. Little Richard gave up singing for several years to join the ministry. He came back & is still around singing those Oldies but Goodies. https://youtube/watch?v=oqz6Y9aHGIQ Heres a video clip with a song, from the movie of the same name, The Girl Cant Help It sung by Little Richard Special thanks to our friend, Frank Buongervino, for the above information.
