HAS ANYONE OUT THERE NOT READ THE BIBLE? Many people condemn the Bible or condemn those who read it and believe in it , without actually studying its contents. Saffron Walden Baptist Church has recently replaced their Pew Bibles and the new ones have transparent plastic covers to help preserve their shelf life as they are in constant use. As a result they have around 100 second hand copies if anyone would like a copy or copies. This is the NIV - The New International Version first published in 1973 of which there are now many hundreds of millions in circulation. Pictured here are 3 impressions. A 1973 blue covered edition and two maroon 16th and 19th reprints. It was revised in 1980, and since twice, as scholars understanding of the original manuscripts have improved. If you would like a copy or copies email [email protected] The Bible is of course not a book, although bound into one cover, but a collection of books written prior to 100AD over 1,500 – 2,000 years by some 50 authors in several countries in 3 languages. It includes the Jewish scriptures , “the writings”, the OLD TESTAMENT with the history of early human civilisation; The source and development of the history of the Jews, their great literature, the Psalms as sung by huge choirs accompanied by orchestras in their great Temples in Jerusalem. The Law given to them by God as the basis of His Kingdom on Earth- which still exists on Earth, and the Prophets, men and women, who delivered Gods messages to them over the centuries, including predictions concerning the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah who will one day rule the whole planet and other events some of them fulfilled I recent decades. The Open Bible pictured here is open at The Prophecy of Isaiah chapters 48 and 49 in which God challenges his stubborn unbelieving Jewish people as to whom he is, and what he has done for them then and would do in the future pointing to the Messiah. It also includes the Christian Scriptures the NEW TESTAMENT, the records of the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, the only Saviour offered to humanity by God. The only person through whom we may access Heaven when we die, along with the early history of the Christian Church, The Acts, and the letters of their early leaders, and the Book of Revelation which outlines many things that have since taken place or are as yet to come to pass in the future. The Blue covered one shown here carries an inscription “In Memory of Arthur Coote Superintendent of Sewards End Mission, Scout Leader, Deacon. Lay Preacher”
