HAS SPIRITUAL WARFARE BECOME YOUR CAREER? I believe there are times where we must engage in war and battle in the spirit for breakthrough and victory. But I fear also that for some believers, the religious spirit has deceived them into forever fighting one battle after another, and becoming discouraged and weary because they never see any significant breakthroughs or take any “spoils of war.” Jesus said if you bind the strongman, you can spoil his house. Old Covenant Israel fought many battles, but also reaped the rewards of those battles by plundering the enemy. I believe spiritual warfare should have “measurable” results after a certain period of time. It must have a specific focus and purpose. How the battle is going must be evaluated. Is the desired end-result being achieved? Is progress being made? Are we just shooting a shot gun in the sky hoping we’ll hit something, or with precision being marksmen in the spirit shooting a rifle accurately at a target? Is there a strategy and plan in place through which God can release the results of warfare and intercession? For example, if a church is praying for souls to be saved in their community or city, are there evangelism initiatives in place that God can bless and through which results can be measured? If a church is praying intensely for revival, are there gatherings scheduled to wait upon the Lord for a move of His Spirit? Why am I saying all this today? Because I see the enemy wearing out some of the saints including some churches, who feel their life-long career is spiritual warfare. Sometimes I see the churches who spend the most time in warfare and intercession, see the least results because of the lack of a plan in place for God to bless. Sometimes they are the ones who grow the least and stay the smallest. And sometimes those churches who do very little warfare and intercession, but have a big vision and a strategic plan under great leadership grow the most and see the greatest results. If what you are doing in this area is not working, there comes a time to evaluate. Sometimes churches need to bring in an apostle for evaluation and consultation, and to help develop some apostolic strategies. Listen – you are not called to fight every battle. As someone once said – chose you battles wisely. Spiritual warfare and intercession is to achieve breakthrough and victory. You are not to spend your life with boxing gloves on in the ring with the devil or his demons. When ministers and churches get out of balance in this area, they will get worn out and discouraged. It’s time to evaluate: is what you believe God told you to do working? If not, why? Perhaps you missed it somewhere. Don’t be too proud to admit it. Grace comes through humility. If you’re going to do spiritual warfare – then for sure do it with purpose and a plan, and plunder the enemy and go after the spoils of war.
