HAS TIME AND CIRCUMSTANCE GIVEN THE U S THE OPPORTUNITY TO SET UP A MILITARY BASE IN AFRICA?..........The United States do not have a Military base in Africa but It has long been it desire to establish one, the African Command better called -AFRICOM…………..The U S was at the verge of establishing one in 2006 in either South Africa, Botswana or Liberia. It demands were turned down unanimously by the trio of Former South Africa president, Thabo Mbeki, Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo And Algeria leader Abdelazi Bouflafika. These leaders had used their powers to convince the leaders of Botswana and Liberia not to accept their country to be used as a U S military base. These leaders were of the views that this was going to be an extension of the U S Neo-imperialist agenda to the continent. The U S is involved in Joint Military exercise with South Africa yearly on South Africa soil. The U S has a mini-military base in Botswana n Liberia. And many other military co-operation and operations has been signed and is conducted in many other African Countries………Africa is very unstable and the continent is greatly ravaged by so many conflicts and civil strife. The growth of terror groups, like the Al-Shabaab in East Africa and Boko Haram in West Africa/Central Africa present a new threat which needs urgent Interventions…………….My question to us all is, is this the time and given the short comings of African Forces, Should Africa accept the U S now to set up a military base?.
