HE (CHRIST) ENDURE IT ALL BECAUSE OF WE And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground ( Luke 22:44) It was corruption and wickedness of men that contrived and affected His death. It was by mens wickedness that He was reproched, mocked, buffeted, and spit upon. It was by mens wickedness that Barabbas was preferred before Him. It was mens wickedness that laid the cross upon Him to bear, and that nailed Him to it, and put Him to so cruel and ignominious a death. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all ( Isaiah 53:6).
