HE POWHIRI TENEI KI NGA URI O TE AITANGA A MAHAKI MAHAKI MANDATE INFORMATION HUI Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trust is seeking a mandate from Te Aitanga a Mahaki members to enter into direct negotiations with the Crown on all Te Aitanga a Mahaki (including Te Whanau a Kai and Ngariki/Ngariki Kaiputahi) historical Treaty of Waitangi Claims or pursue binding recommendations and other remedies from the Waitangi Tribunal. Every registered Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trust beneficiary (over the age of 18 years) will receive a Mandating information pack, voting form and a new registration form specifically for this Mandating process. If you are registered and have not received your pack by 14 March 2014, then please contact the independent scrutineer Anthony Morton, electionz@electionz or call free on 0508 666 887. Any voting queries can be directed to Anthony as well. Voting by post or online will close at 5pm on 4 April 2014. Registrations for the mandating process will be open from 9am, 6 March 2014. You can register on line at mahaki or by contacting Ian Ruru, mahakitrust@gmail or calling 06 868 7733. Registrations for this Mandating process will close at 5pm on 4 April 2014. Registrations can still be received after this date but they will not be counted for the Mandating process. The specific Mandate and supportive vote that the Trust is seeking is: 1. THAT, in accordance with the Te Aitanga A Mahaki Mandate Document, Te Aitanga A Mahaki Trust is the mandated entity to settle all historical claims for Te Aitanga A Mahaki 2. THAT, if the Crown fails to engage to the satisfaction of Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trust, then John Ruru (Wai 274 & Wai 283) and Te Aitanga A Mahaki Trust have the mandate to represent Te Aitanga a Mahaki in seeking binding recommendations and other remedies through the Waitangi Tribunal. This mandate is supported by John Ruru who filed the original Te Aitanga a Mahaki Iwi claim in March 1992 and who has led the wider Te Aitanga a Mahaki claim to this day. Information Hui, to explain the Mandate and answer any queries in person, will be held at the following times and locations: 2pm 23 March 2014 Rongopai Marae, 473 Lavenham Rd, Waituhi, Gisborne 9.30am 25 March 2014 Ngati Awa Conference Room, Louvain St, Whakatane 2pm 25 March 2014 TPK Board Room, Houpapa St, Rotorua 6pm 25 March 2014 TPK Board Room, Worley St, Hamilton You are welcome to attend these information hui where registration forms can be provided and confirmed. Votes, including special votes, can also be received (for transfer to Electionz). Also, outside of the rohe noted above, if you can organize more than 20 registered beneficiaries to attend a hui and you want the Mandating team to hold an Information hui with you then please contact Robyn Rauna at [email protected] or 027 249 4166.
