HEARTBREAKING CASE FROM MEGAN HALL. Aside from the pain and suffering to the animal, rescuers are subject to some horrendous and traumatic experiences. So sorry Megan. I work for Fauna Rescue SA, as a koala rescuer and I had the worst callout today. They thought it was a dog attack. I arrived to pick him up and straight away you could smell him, it was a horrible smell. As i looked at him he had blood dripping from his mouth, he was unable to close his mouth as well, it looked like a car injury. I took him straight to the vet where he was looked at immediately. Turns out he was hit by a car, his jaw was broken and it was an open fracture in his mouth. The wound had gone septic. It was horrific to see. He was in so much pain, unable to eat, drink or breathe properly. He was euthanised and is a better place now. No pain. The man who picked him up parked on the side of the road and as he was collecting the koala people continued to stop and take photos. Unbelievable! If you see a koala on the road, dont just get your camera out, check to see if it is ok. Just like this beautiful man they could be injured. Also, again, I ask for you to drive safely and if you do hit an animal by accident please stop and take it to a vet immediately. Things like this do not need to happen. This poor man suffered for days even weeks. Rest in peace beautiful man. I am sorry, you did not deserve this. ♡ Koalatracker Megan that is heartbreaking! Please also track that one for us - I think he has to count as an injured, even though he later died (Kay). Like · Reply · a few seconds ago
