HELLO EVERYONE! This is Kevin, posting This is Kevin posting for Nancy! Its been hard trying to keep everyone updated on nancy;s condition. So I thought I make a post toget everyone up to speed. For those who may not know, Nancy was diagnosed with Leukemia just before Christmas. Since that time, she was transferred to MD Anderson hospital, and admitted into a clinical trial program. She has (ALL) which is a rare type of leukemia, mostly found in children. It was found in her blood, which means it is in the bone marrow, and also in her brain. She had completed the first of 8 chemotherapy treatments, when she suffered a hemorrhage in the brain. CAT scan showed a large pool of blood pushing on her which has affected her left side. The scan also showed a small pool of blood at the brain stem. Which has affected her auto functions like temp control, blood pressure, breathing, and most motor functions. She was put on a ventilator, and several types of different monitors to keep her going. Day after the CAT scan, doctors were recommending that we move to comfort care for Nancy. Their opinion, was she has suffered server brain damage, and wound never be able to recover from her state. That afternoon, she proved them all wrong. She moved her right side, hands, feet, and nodded yes to the doctor. Medicine and science had given up on her! Prayers and healing vibes sent her way were all that was left! It was a miracle that she was able to move at all, and the doctors were astounded. Two days later, another CAT scan was done, and the hemorrhage at the top of her head had reduced itself, allowing her brain to move, reducing the pressure. The blood spot on the brain stem however has gotten larger. Brain surgeon, said he could not do brain surgery because she had a very low count of Platelets, the ones she was receiving were seldom because the hospital was short on supply, and they were also diluted The doctored told us that if we were to donate platelets in her name at the hospital, she would get single donor platelets, which were packed with thousands more, healthier platelets. I contacted several friends, and businesses and asked everyone to please reach out to their friends, trying to find as many people that would donate platelets in her name. The response was incredible. For all those that could and did donate platelets, your efforts were a true gift of life. Nancy’s count seemed to double each time she received the platelets. It’s believed that due to the increases, the hemorrhage has stopped bleeding, at least for now. A third CAT scan was done, and the surgeon feels now that the risk of surgery strongly outweighs the benefit. Other The team of doctors seem to be split in their decision about her long term recovery. Some are convinced she will have no quality of life, other remains hopeful, saying we need more time. She still remains in ICU fighting several battles at the same time. Every day is a new day, and we never know what to expect. She is fighting hard, very hard, to survive.
