HELP NEEDED: UNASHAMED WORKMEN 2 Timothy 2:15, Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly (correctly) dividing the Word of truth. The word here for study also means to be diligent, industrious, hard-working, and zealous. It means to put forth ones best effort as your in the apprenticeship role of learning, practising, and plying your trade of what ever skill you have elected and endeavored to follow. Whether it be stone-mason, metal-fabricator, farmer, or woodsmith, etc. You get the idea. As you are learning you must submit to the instruction given to you by your teachers as they inform you of the intracies of that particular trade. There are reliable books on that trade that will guide you into becoming a reliable skilled and proficient worker that needs not to be ashamed or embarassed by producing shoddy unacceptable work. This same principle applies to the pastor, preacher, teacher, Christian worker, and witness of Gods Word. We must labor diligently to be skilled and proficient in giving out Gods Word. We must work hard to read, learn, memorize, and know Godr Word to be able to correctly share it, teach it, and apply it efficiently so as to please God and help men and to avoid shame. We need avid students of the Bible, and intently and diligently study it, so that we can correctly teach the Word of truth. The phrase rightly dividing is from the Greek word orthotomounta which means correctly teaching, cutting straight, holding a straight course, and doing right. This word suggests the imagery of a farmer cutting a straight furrow and ploughing a straight row: a stone-mason hewing, chiseling, and carving a straight stone: a tentmaker cutting a straight-egded cloth: and a woodsmith sawing a straight board from timber. If and of these craftsmen (workmen) fail to do a good and thorough job it will bring shame and embarassment to them and people wont go to them any more for their services. Do you understand where the apostle Paul is going with all this? There are many pastors, preachers, Bible teachers, Christian workers, and witnesses that ought to be embarassed and ashamed in their unskilled inability to correctly teach Gods Word to cut a straight dividing line between divine truth and obvious error. They are an embarassment to God, themselves, and the ministry. They are a source of contradiction and confusion to those that hear them. They need to start cracking the Book (the Bible) and studying hard to intently and intimately know Gods Word so that they correctly dispense it. This is serious business. More serious than farming, stone-masonry, metal-fabricating, or wood-working. Lives are at stake here. Souls are on the line. Eternity hangs in the balance. FOR GODS HONOR AND PEOPLES SAKE.......STUDY YOUR BIBLE!!
