HERES JOHNNY!!! (And more film reviews!) I finally saw this, in full, for the first time ever in my Film Criticism class. I had attempted to see sanitized versions of it on channels like BBC America, but somehow never got through it for whatever reason. I dont have to tell you much about this except that, even today, it still holds up as one of the best horror films of all time. It is scary, it is frightening, it is thrilling, and at times it is even gross. It relies more on suspense rather than shock and surprise like the majority of todays horror films do. And even now, the psychological aspects of THE SHINING remain hotly-contested subjects among film analysts—some of these interesting viewpoints were examined in more detail in the 2012 IFC Films documentary ROOM 237 (imdb/title/tt2085910/).
