HILLSIDE HELPS-“Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Show me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy loving-kindnesses, for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O Lord. Good and upright is the Lord: therefore he will teach sinners in the way.” (Ps.25:1-8) When in trouble, most Christians “lift up” their soul unto the Lord, and rightly so. Due to the heaviness of heart experienced through personal pain or struggles, we find ourselves, face down and looking up in need of help we cannot provide for ourselves. Unfortunately, this is the view of so many Christians; “As long as things seem to be going smooth, there is no apparent reason for me to bother God with things I can handle on my own.” This is not only a mistake, but a sin against God. In coming to Lord initially, both sinful and helpless, we were broken, guilty, and totally in despair over our sin. We cried out, lifting up our soul before God, in repentance and confession of our sin. Because of the death of Jesus, which paid the penalty for all our sin, God shows us both grace and mercy in forgiving our sin and saving our soul. It is in full dependence upon God alone, that we forsake our sin, and continue trusting Him going forward. Along the path in following Jesus, we experience personally: opposition, persecution, prejudice, and, at times severe pain. This may cause us to have a temporary transformation of our thinking and actions. We forget that it was dependence and trust that got us where we are at the moment. If we are not careful, we will focus on all our woes, forgetting all that God has already done for us before the troubles started, and all He has promised to do for us. At this crucial point we must take corrective action and stop the eroding away of our faith. Start by once again lifting your soul up to the Lord. Reaffirm your total trust in Him to once again by asking Him to show you His ways, teach you His truths anew, and continue to lead you in His truth. Ask the Lord to teach you and then be teachable with open ears and a yielded heart. After making your request known unto God, then wait on Him. Yes, stop worry and fretting over all that seems to be out of sorts in your life. Give God your time and just wait on Him. If you get restless and stirred up about something, go back and read Ps.25 and allow the Holy Spirit to help you understand once again this truth so you can apply it again. Today, get in the Word so that the Word can get into you. Cry out to God with all your hurts, heartaches, disappointments, and woes. He is waiting to hear from you, dear child of God.
