HOW IMPORTANT ARE THE OWNER MANUALS TO THE CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF YOUR VEHICLE? Recently we were reminded of how valuable the owner manuals (and audio manuals) are to the proper repair and maintenance of vehicles today. A vehicle came in contact with a deer and had to be taken to a body shop for repairs. While at the body shop, the vehicles battery had to be disconnected and remained disconnected for several days. Since the battery was disconnected, for several days, the vehicles navigation system lost all memory (possibly as a result of a security feature). In order to restore the navigation system to its proper function, the vehicle required a special CD to be reactivated (the CD is similar to the one we receive when purchasing a new printer for your personal computer). However, the CD had been misplaced and a new one had to be purchased from the dealer. The approximate cost of the new CD was $200 and took about five days to be received. Many audio systems in todays vehicles are protected by a security/anti-theft feature, when disconnected from the vehicle battery the audio device no longer functions unless a code or, in this case, a CD is available for reactivation. The codes and other valuable information are generally recorded somewhere in the owner manual. Therefore, we recommend when purchasing a new or used vehicle that you always familiarize yourself with the owner manual, audio manual, and any other manuals/CDs. Always keep these in your vehicle for easy reference. This can save your FAVORITE mechanics (Dartt Automotive Service, Inc.)and yourselves valuable time and money spent on headache medicine. :-)
