[HPHPF Free Food Corner For Needy & Homeless @ Bedok Central (Next to 216 Market), Every Wednesday, 7pm] The good people of Happy People Helping People Foundation (HPHPF) came out with this great idea of collecting unsold food from nearby hawker center/ food stalls to place in this free food corner for the needy and homeless folks. I thought that this concept helps to minimise food wastage and at the same time fill the stomach of the hungry. It could potentially be the morale booster that the poor need to fight for a better tomorrow. The first session took place just 2 days ago and the response was lukewarm (as seen from the pic), probably because the contributors and beneficiaries have not warmed up to this idea yet. I know the team will not give up and keep trying until they are successful and I know they will! I actually have a humble suggestion to help them in this mission. I thought that for a start, maybe volunteers can help to do a stocktake on the food items they have in their house, e.g. biscuit, cookies, cereals, milo, instant mee or any food items that they may have overlooked for awhile (but not expired yet), and bring down those items that they feel they can donate away. I myself am guilty of leaving my packet biscuit in the cupboard or cookie jar until one day I realized they are 1 or 2 months away from expiry so I had to quickly try to finish them up. If you have items like this (neglected but not expired), maybe you would like to bring them down to this free food corner to bless those who are really hungry. The location is at Bedok Central, just next to BLK 216 Market. The team will be there from 7 to 8.30pm, thereafter they may start to go around to look for cardboard collectors, homeless folks to distribute items that are not collected. Bro Nafiz, I never ask for your permission before posting this because I know you wouldnt mind :p Keep up the great work your team is doing !
