HR 4182, my bill to protect public access to the Ozark National - TopicsExpress

HR 4182, my bill to protect public access to the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, passed the House Natural Resources Committee today by a vote of 25-15. HR 4182 prevents the Park Service from implementing the new Draft General Management Plan that would close horse trails, limit boat motors on the river, close access points to the river, and propose new Congressional Wilderness Designations in the park. In addition to preventing the closure of horse trails, protecting the use of boats with motors, keeping access points open, and making sure that no new wilderness areas are designated, HR 4182 also states that The Ozark National Scenic Riverways should be managed primarily to preserve and protect the historical recreational uses of the river, including canoeing, kayaking, floating, horseback riding, camping, boating, fishing, trapping, hiking, gigging, swimming, hunting, and other recreational activities that have been performed within the park since its creation. The Natural Resources Committee today sent a strong message today by passing my legislation - the proposed “Draft General Management Plan” for the Ozark National Scenic Riverways is unacceptable, and we need new statutory protections for public use and enjoyment of the Park.
